Perry Rubenstein Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition curated by Dan Cameron entitled Plus One. This exhibition unites recent graduates of the School of Visual Arts MFA Fine Arts program with other artists who have influenced their work in some way.
Plus One is a concept-driven exhibition wherein each MFA Fine Arts 2010 graduate from the School of Visual Arts has invited another artist to participate who has had an impact on their work. Over sixty artists will be represented, including Jen Denike, Trenton Doyle-Hancock, Michele Zalopany, Matthew Craven, Kate Davis Caldwell and Natalia Yovane. Curated by Dan Cameron, artwork will include sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, video, and installation.
Dan Camerons statement about the exhibition is, For so many years we were quite content to visualize the artist alone in his or her studio, struggling to reconcile his/her sense of anonymity with the quest for immortality. Today, the young artist is more apt to think of his/her art career in terms of alliances and community, and in this spirit Plus One can be thought of as a way of making tangible the premise that each artists identity is connected to other artists, and that this point of connection is itself worth examining more closely.
